Pool table movers that don't know what they are doing

They hired a cheap pool table mover!

Their cheap pool table mover cost them dearly!

Why oh why do people make decisions so poorly?  I tell people about the risk in our industry, I tell them cheap is not the best.  And what do they do?  They turn around and hire an amateur because it cost less.

Everybody wants a diamond ring but they don’t want to pay for it, they want their pool table moved for next to nothing and go with the cheapest bidder which should raise huge red flags in the mind of the consumer but it doesn’t.  And the following story often becomes the result.

Pool table collapsed
Actual images from event

The smart customer that found the best bargain.  I like this story.

A customer called me and she was in a panic, she said she needed help right away because her pool table fell down when she pushed on it to try to slide it across the floor while she was cleaning.

she was worried about what her husband was going to do because it was his pool table and he took a great deal of pride in it.

As she described the situation to me I asked her how hard she pushed on the table she said she barely touched it and the pool table just collapsed under its own weight!  It  was a beautiful Brunswick pool table probably with a retail value purchase new around $4,000 depending on the dealer and the people that did the work before, or the original installation, the customer found their business card under the pool table.  Told me who it was and I said  “You don’t have to say anything else, I know them well.”

I knew that they’ve been in business at least 10 years, they’re very cheerful on the phone they make you think they really know what they’re doing but obviously they don’t.  The damage caused to this table by these kids is horrible.

You have to understand that when a company / person doesn’t charge enough for their work it tells me two things:

1. They don’t think high enough of their business to grow it and their work will reflect the same.

2. There will be no interest in doing the best job possible or honoring the work that is sub standard when you have a problem after they are gone.

Here's what saving money on your pool table move will get you
Save money! Call a cheap mover.

The thing about it is that these guys are really cheap!  I mean really cheap so these folks had this company come out and they probably shopped around then went with the cheapest price and then got a big surprise!

So then they called us and of course we had to come out in the middle of the night to fix the problem but we did it, we took care of everything the table got put back together and we made the repairs and of course the people paid us more than they paid the other company that actually caused the damage to the table in the first place.

Yes you will have to pay for quality,  I’m really sorry.

So rather than spending a fair amount of money for a quality company to move their table in the first place they actually had to have two services done from two different companies and I can guarantee you to get the situation resolved including the initial company that was the cheap one these guys are out of pocket over $600.

But even after all was said and done, the customer admitted they hired a cheap company to save money in the beginning but then turned right around and said that we were too expensive.  Well I guess it’s just a frame of mind that isn’t going to change anytime soon for her.

Pay the money,  get it done right the first time, get the service guarantee and this isn’t going to happen to you.

I can’t stress enough how much money you can save yourself by paying for the right company to move your pool table.

Don’t call me, it’s too much money

I usually get over 20 phone calls per day to move pool tables.

Most of them won’t book their job with us.   The simple fact is that people are always looking for the cheapest price.  When you put that together with the fact that most people operating in our industry are either frauds or horrible at running businesses I don’t have to tell anyone with any level of intelligence that it often ends in a terrible experience.

cheap pool table moverJust because I take 20 phone calls a day and deal with pool table movers every day…. geez you know what?  That’s a lot of jobs to price isn’t it.  Let’s see 20 x roughly 360 days per year.  (I take a few days off a year.) That’s about hmm…. Yea like 7,200 phone calls per year for pool table moves and installations.  Well don’t take my word for it anyway, I know my industry and going cheap is not the way to go.

I just had another call today.  I had my pool table installed and the slates are all out of wack now.  Hmmm.  OK so why is it out of wack?  Did you move it?  No,  the guy that did it must have done a bad installation, now I can’t get in contact with him.  Well after you paid that cheap price do you expect us to come out for free and fix it?

He won’t be having us come out, he’ll find another cheap option and roll the dice agian.  I’m sure of it.

Do you use professionals or amateurs for your services?

I Learned a long time ago that if you do business with cheap people you’re going to have a cheap experience, well some people live in that type of world so it’s good for them to surround themselves with cheap people.  If you were being tried for a crime that you didn’t commit would you want to hire the cheapest attorney?  They guy that says “Just hire me dog, I need to pay my rent!”

I don’t think so.

How about having a surgery or having a baby?  Would you go to the hospital and say, hey listen people I don’t want to pay too much so can you find me the cheapest doctor you can and then ask him if he can do it any cheaper.

Dude come on and get real.

I try to be as honest as I can with these people.  For example a guy called me today and I have him our professional pricing and introduced him to our 12 month service guarantee.  He told me he had found a much cheaper price from a guy and he just couldn’t get a hold of him now.

Dude get a clue, if you can’t even get in touch with him to give him your business what do you think is going to happen if your table isn’t installed correctly.  You think you’re having a hard time talking to him now?  If that isn’t a red flag I don’t know what is.

We have a few professionals in our industry, use em man!

Please tell me it’s not going to be….

One of those days for pool table moving

I hope this isn’t a sign of things to come!

First call of the day, yep bottom of the 1st.  She says she moved and had 6 people move her pool table into her new home,  I start feeling the desperation, oh god please don’t tell me. Oops sorry back to the call.  When they tried to flip it from it’s side onto the legs they broke off of the pool table!  Damn I hoped she wasn’t going to say that.  My hopes of helping her and getting a job fade quickly.

Two people lose in this situation, her and me.  Why?  Well because she isn’t going to have a pool table and in most cases I’m not going to be able to fix the problem.  Look I’m already up to my neck in simple pool table moves, I don’t really have time to try and help someone that should have had a professional move the pool table in the first place.  This is actually a bigger problem for me than if we would have just moved the pool table to begin with.

I was hoping she could send me pictures of the damage to put on this blog but she said she didn’t know how to do that.  Am I surprised?  Nope.

The table is sitting on it’s side between her living room and her dining room and baby I’ll tell you this, there ain’t a pool table guy in the city that’s going to want to help her with that one.  She on her own sweetheart!

Good luck!
